Questions and answers about ceiling radiant
Do you think the radiant ceiling may cost too much?
In addition to being the ideal solution for heating and cooling, installing radiant ceiling does not require additional investment to make a plasterboard ceiling. Therefore, in case of upgrading, radiant ceiling allows you to avoid additional construction or masonry work.
What is the thickness needed to install the ceiling?
To achieve proper installation, the minimum thickness required is about 10 centimeters, which includes the Leonardo radiant panel and support structure.
How does radiant ceiling heat and cool?
The radiant ceiling works by radiation, so it is not true that heat goes up and cold goes down as is commonly believed. In nature, the sun warms the earth by absorbing heat and, at night, the earth cools by giving up heat to the sky vault. In the same way, radiant systems give up or absorb energy with the environment by the physical principle of radiation, creating an ideal situation for heat exchange between people and surfaces. This eliminates the classic phenomenon of hot air going up and cold air going down as happens in traditional convective air systems or radiators.
At what temperature should the hot panels be fed?
It depends on the requirements of the environment. The average flow temperature is 35°C.
At what temperature should the panels be fed in cold?
It depends on the requirements of the environment. The average flow temperature is 16°C.
I have the ceiling at a height of 270 cm. Can I install the radiant ceiling?
Yes you can decrease the height to 260 cm as per Interministerial Decree June 26, 2015: “In the case of installation of thermal systems equipped with radiant floor or ceiling panels – the minimum heights of dwelling rooms provided for in the first and second paragraphs, of the Ministerial Decree of July 5, 1975, may be waived up to a maximum of 10 centimeters.”
Dove vanno installati i collettori di distribuzione?
They should normally be installed on the ceiling. Hallways and hallways can be lowered to a height of 240 cm, creating a technical compartment for the installation of manifolds. They can also possibly be installed on the wall.
Do the panels condense in cold weather?
To avoid condensation during cooling operation, the radiant ceiling should be combined with our humidity control or ventilation machines, like all radiant cooling systems. After that, the system can be completed with our SmartComfort 365 intelligent control.
Can I insert recessed lighting (e.g.spotlights) into the ceiling?
Yes, no problem. Normally 30 percent of the ceiling is not radiant and is completed with infill panels that can be positioned to accommodate spotlights or recessed lamps even important ones, alternatively we can provide our Leonardo Lux panel that has the special feature of having a pipe-free area in the central area (1450x180 mm) for the installation of lamps, vents, etc.
Can I install chandeliers?
Yes, no problem. A laser marking is clearly evident on the plasterboard part of the Leonardo panels, reflecting exactly the position of the piping. In the free space between the pipes, holes can be drilled to run the corrugations and attach the chandeliers.
Can the radiant ceiling crack?
As with normal suspended ceilings, there are rules of good installation: if they are not followed, cracking can occur independently of radiant panels. In the radiant ceiling, the average surface temperatures do not differ from a normal ceiling. On average 28°C in winter and 19°C in summer.
Yes, a mixing valve will be installed to adjust the water supply temperature to the required temperatures (in hot 35 to 40°C).
Yes, it is the ideal situation, the radiant ceiling working with water at low temperatures in heating and high temperatures in cooling significantly increases the yields of the heat pump.
What surface finish can I achieve?
The same finishes as a normal ceiling. Important to apply primer and that the products used are breathable.
